Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Political parties play a crucial role in mobilizing voters, particularly at the grassroots level, where local party structures are pivotal in engaging citizens in the political process. In Bama LGA, Borno State, political parties have historically been instrumental in organizing local campaigns to encourage voter participation. These grassroots campaigns are designed to reach voters directly, educate them about candidates and policies, and ensure high voter turnout during elections. Research indicates that political parties' engagement strategies, particularly at the grassroots level, significantly influence electoral outcomes (Mohammed & Zubairu, 2023). However, the extent to which political parties in Bama LGA effectively mobilize voters remains unclear. This study will assess the influence of political parties on voter mobilization in the region, focusing on the role of grassroots campaigns in increasing voter participation in local elections.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the active participation of political parties in local elections, voter turnout in Bama LGA has often been low, suggesting that grassroots campaigns may not be as effective as intended. This study aims to evaluate the strategies employed by political parties to mobilize voters at the grassroots level and assess their impact on voter turnout. The research will also explore the challenges political parties face in reaching and engaging voters in this region.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to a better understanding of the role of political parties in voter mobilization, particularly at the grassroots level in Bama LGA. By evaluating the effectiveness of party campaigns, the study will provide valuable recommendations for political parties seeking to improve voter engagement and increase participation in local elections.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on political parties' grassroots campaigns in Bama LGA during the most recent local elections. It will examine the strategies used and assess their impact on voter mobilization and turnout. The study will not extend to national-level campaigns or other forms of political engagement. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported data from political party representatives and voters.
